Nose Aesthetics – What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is an operation performed to eliminate congenital or subsequent deformities. While deformity is operated for some people only for visual impairment, some people are operated for respiratory problems. Regardless of the reason for surgery, the first priority in rhinoplasty is to make the respiratory tract function properly. During the operation, procedures such as reshaping or partial correction of the nose are applied.
Patients who are considering rhinoplasty surgery should first have their nasal structure and tissue checked by the surgeon. A specialist surgeon should definitely perform this surgery, as a wrong intervention will be quite noticeable. The desired result in rhinoplasty is obtained within 6-12 months.
How is Nose Aesthetics Performed?
Rhinoplasty is an operation performed under general anaesthesia. The operation takes 1 – 2 hours on average. The time you spend in the hospital; It usually takes 1 day with preoperative preparations and postoperative applications. There are 2 preferred types of rhinoplasty. The first of these is open rhinoplasty. In open rhinoplasty, the nostrils are cut open. In this way, the doctor’s field of vision becomes more. Generally, open rhinoplasty is used in larger deformities. The biggest advantage of open rhinoplasty is to increase the doctor’s field of vision. However, the biggest disadvantage is that the healing process is longer and problems such as bruising and oedema occur more frequently. The other technique is closed rhinoplasty. In closed rhinoplasty, an area is opened by cutting through the nasal skin. The doctor’s field of vision is less. However, the healing time is faster and the stitch marks are not visible because it is through the nostrils. Closed rhinoplasty is mostly applied to noses with little deformity.
How Long Does Nose Aesthetics Heal?
In rhinoplasty operation, patients usually get up and start walking around after 6 hours, and if there is no vomiting and nausea after 6 hours, eating can be started. In general, the patient can be discharged on the same day or 1 day later. At the end of the operation, a tampon is placed in the nose. These tampons are removed after 2-3 days. The mould placed on the nose is removed after about 10 days. If there are no complications after the operation, the patient can return to work after 1 week and 10 days. Postoperative bruising and swelling are normal, they will decrease within 1 week and 10 days. Approximately 80% of the oedema disappears 1 month after the operation. The targeted shape is reached 1 year after the operation.

Recovery time can vary depending on the extent of the surgery, but most people can expect to return to work and normal activities within 1-2 weeks. Swelling and bruising are common after surgery, but these symptoms should improve over time.
In most cases, incisions for nose surgery are made inside the nose, so there are no visible external scars. In some cases, a small incision may be made on the columella (the strip of skin between the nostrils), but this incision is usually very discreet and fades over time.
Like any surgical procedure, nose surgery carries some risks, including infection, bleeding, and adverse reactions to anesthesia. Other potential risks include poor wound healing, changes in skin sensation, and dissatisfaction with the cosmetic results. It is important to discuss these risks with your surgeon before undergoing surgery.
The final results of nose surgery may not be fully visible until several months after the procedure, as it takes time for the swelling to fully subside and for the tissues to settle into their new shape. However, you should notice a significant improvement in the appearance of your nose within a few weeks of surgery.
